Rangers Europa League squad surprise as first team trio are left out completely

Jermain Defoe, Jordan Jones and George Edmundson haven't been included in Rangers' Europa League squad for the group stages.

Steven Gerrard's 21 man squad was published on the UEFA website this morning, and there's no place for the first team trio.

Bongani Zungu comes straight in while Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe are included as they are on their way back from injury.

The likes of Nathan Patterson and Jamie Barjonas are on the 'B list'.

The Rangers squad in full is as follows: McGregor, McLaughlin, Tavernier, Bassey, Helander, Goldson, Balogun, Barisic, Hagi, Jack, Davis, Kent, Zungu, Aribo, Kamara, Stewart, Arfield, Itten, Morelos, Barker, Roofe.

Rangers get their Europa League campaign underway with a trip to face Standard Liege on Thursday, 22 October.

They then face a home match against Lech Poznan and a double header against Benfica before the reverse Poznan and Standard fixtures.
