Rangers Europa League pathway revealed as UEFA unveils mini-tournament plan

Rangers' Europa League campaign will end in Germany - regardless of how their second leg with Bayer Leverkusen pans out.

The first leg of the tie was the last professional match played in Scotland before the coronavirus shutdown, with Steven Gerrard 's men beaten 3-1 at Ibrox.

That left their Europa League fate hanging by a thread, but even if they advance Rangers will be staying in Germany with games taking place between August 10 to 24.

Under plans unveiled by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin on Tuesday, the country will host all matches from the quarter-finals onward, with Portugal to host the last eight in the Champions League.

Europa League matches from the last 16 will see their second legs played at the originally intended venues, with Gelsenkirchen - favourite for the final - Dusseldorf, Cologne and Duisburg hosting the remaining matches.

Inter vs Getafe and Roma vs Sevilla will be played as one-off ties in Germany as their first legs were never played.

The governing body stated: "The quarters, the semi-final and the final will be played at four German venues in the same reason: Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen between the 10th and 24th of August.

"The round of 16 matches will be played on the 5th and 6th of August."

The same applies for the Champions League, with the last eight to be played in Lisbon in August.

Juventus vs Lyon will be played in Turin and Barcelona vs Napoli in Catalonia on August 7 and 8 before the action moves to Portugal.

The draw for the last eight will be made on July 10.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for August 12 to 15, the semi-finals on August 18 and 19 and the final on August 23.

The Europa League final will be held two days before the Champions League final under the new plan.

UEFA also announced that the Super Cup will be played in Budapest on September 24, with the 2021 Champions League final in Istanbul after the Turkish city missed out this year.

The 2022 showpiece will be in St Petersburg.
