Rangers Europa League path cleared as Ibrox side dodge strict Czech lockdown rules

Rangers have passed a COVID hurdle to their Europa League plans after Steven Gerrard’s side were granted an exemption to enter the Czech Republic amidst strict new lockdown measures.

The Ibrox side are due to face Slavia Prague in the Czech capital next Thursday, but questions were raised over the match being played at the Eden Arena due to a spike in coronavirus cases.

Several European ties in both the Champions and Europa Leagues have been played at neutral venues to circumvent the various rules and regulations in different countries.

Restrictions just passed in the Czech Republic require all arrivals to the country from the UK to quarantine on arrival, but Rangers will avoid that ruling provided they spend as little time in the country as possible.

Slavia vice-president Tomas Syrovatka confirmed: " Rangers have received from the Ministry of Health a confirmation that entry will be allowed to the Czech Republic in order to play the Europa League match with Slavia."

Gerrard's side will fly in to Prague on the Wednesday evening and will leave the Czech capital in the hours following the game.

The Czech champions warmed up for the visit of Gerrard's side by annihilating minnows FC Slavia Karlovy Vary 10-3 in cup action on Wednesday evening.

Forward Stanislav Tecl netted four in a match Slavia lead 6-1 at the break as they sealed progression to the last eight of the competition in devastating fashion.

Ibrahim Traore opened the scoring, while Denis Visinksy and Ondrej Lingr both helped themselves to a brace.

Jindřich Trpišovský's men are yet to suffer defeat in domestic action this season.
