Rangers Europa League opponents Braga blow two-goal lead as they face tough test before Ibrox

Sporting Braga blew a two-goal lead against Gil Vicente as they handed the initiative back to Sporting in the race for Europe.

Ruben Amorim's side take on Rangers in the Europa League later this month, with the first leg at Ibrox on February 20.

Steven Gerrard's side have already beaten Porto in the competition, with Braga currently sitting 13 points behind Sergio Conceicao's men.

That's because they blew a two-goal lead against Gil Vicente this evening, partly due to a red card for centre-back Bruno Viana.

Andre Horta had given the hosts the lead after just 12 minutes, and that lead was doubled by Ricardo Esgaio.

But Viana was shown a straight red card just before the break for a last man foul on Zakaria Naidji and Gil Vicente rallied in the second half.

Vitor Carvalho reduced the arrears after Bozhidar Kraev's deflected shot was spilled by the Braga goalkeeper, and he got his second of the game on 85 minutes, turning Lourency's cross into the corner with a placed shot.

The result means Braga are now just two points ahead of fourth-placed Sporting, having played a game more, while Famalicao down in fifth are also just two points behind with both teams having played 20 games.

Braga therefore risk slipping out of the Europa League places as they face a trip to league leaders Benfica next weekend before their fixture at Ibrox.
