Rangers Europa League heroics has Marseille chief worried as he wants 'questions answered' amid coefficent fear

Fearful Marseille chief Pablo Longoria reckons it's a disgrace that Scotland has collected more coefficient points in European football this season than France.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are in the mix alongside Manchester City in the Champions League semi finals and made it to the Final last season.

However, the other French clubs in Europe had a torrid time. Marseille and Rennes finished bottom of their groups in the Champions League, Reims were knocked out of the Europa League in the third qualifying round, Nice finished bottom of their Europa League group and Celtic conquerors Lille were dumped out of the same competition in the Round of 32.

Largely due to Rangers' run to the Last 16 of the Europa League, Scotland collected 8.500 points in the country coefficient list compared to the 7.916 points that France collected.

Scotland are the seventh-best country this season for coefficient points and although overall, Scotland are in 11th place and France fifth, Longoria reckons the Scots have shown up French football this season.

He said: "This season, France are eighth in the UEFA rankings behind a country like Scotland and only just ahead of Israel.

"Because of this, we must ask ourselves serious questions about football in this country.

"With the reforms of the Champions League, it is vital we remain in the top five leagues.

"We have some very good coaches and managers in France, but perhaps we need to consider the type of training we are doing because something has gone very wrong."
