Rangers' Europa League date 'planned' as UEFA prepare to play Bayer Leverkusen clash next season

Rangers could be forced to play their Europa League last 16 second clash with Bayer Leverkusen next season - according to a report.

The Ibrox side are currently 3-1 down to the German giants with the game played the day before the UK shutdown all football due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Many expected the Europa League - and the Champions League - to end up scrapped this season but Rangers could play their second leg in September with UEFA determined to complete the tournament.

The Scottish Sun say that UEFA will play the current tournament from September next season with plans to finish it by October.

But Rangers could end up with a hectic schedule if UEFA don't help out with it also being suggested that qualifiers for the 2020/21 campaign will also be played at the same time.

That would see the group stage of next season's tournament beginning in October and then running as normal.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell will take part in a video conference with UEFA on Wednesday as they try to come to a decision as to what to do with football in the current crisis.

Decisions have still to be made on what to do with domestic leagues in the current campaign.
