Rangers 'enter transfer race' to sign Croatian defender

Rangers are reportedly in the hunt to sign Croatian defender Luka Jelenic.

Reports in his homeland have suggested Russel Martin is looking for a new centre-back, and the 25-year-old fits the bill.

Jelenic is believed to be on his way out of Osijek this summer, just 12 months after joining.

He arrived from NK Varaždin for a fee of around €800,000 (£685,000).

The powerful defender made 40 appearances in all competitions.

He gained some European experience too when he featured in the Europa Conference League qualifiers last summer.

Now, despite having two years left to run on his deal, Croatian media outlet 24Sata says he's expected to leave Osijek in the coming weeks.

The report claims Rangers are one of the interested teams. Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes are also vying for his signature.

No asking price is mentioned, however, it's believed Osijek will seek 'serious money' for one of their prized assets.
