Rangers EGM resolution voted down as SPFL clubs reject independent investigation

SPFL clubs have strongly opposed a resolution proposed by Rangers for an independent investigation into the league governing body.

Only 13 of the 42 member clubs backed the Ibrox club's motion, failing to meet the 75 per cent threshold for it to pass.

Fellow Scottish Premiership sides Aberdeen and Hearts and the likes of Stranraer previously signalled their intent to back the launch of an investigation.

A total of 27 clubs sided the SPFL, rejecting Rangers' attempts to demand a probe.

Rangers tabled the resolution having publicly cited serious misgivings around the handling of a previous SPFL vote in which clubs were consulted on how the lower league divisions - and potentially Scotland's top flight - should be ended amid the coronavirus crisis.
