Rangers done in by walks in 9-6 loss to Red Sox

BOSTON _ The Boston Red Sox scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings Tuesday night, and the Texas Rangers' offense couldn't keep up despite collecting 13 hits in a 9-6 loss at Fenway Park.

Andrew Cashner allowed five runs in five innings, and four walks cut short his outing. All four Boston runs in the sixth came with two outs, as six straight batters reached. Four of them took walks.

Joey Gallo homered for the Rangers in the eighth inning, giving him 14 on the season.

The Rangers' offense did its part, banging out 13 hits. Eight of the nine hitters collected at least one hit, save for Elvis Andrus. Gallo homered in the eighth, a solo shot, while Nomar Mazara singled in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Jonathan Lucroy doubled in the seventh to push his streak to 10 games, but Mazara was thrown out at home trying to score with two outs. Both of Shin-Soo Choo's hits drove in runs.

Cashner's start was his worst with the Rangers, as he was undone by walks in two of the three innings in which he allowed runs. The right-hander issued two walks in the second as the Red Sox scored once and two more in Boston's three-run fifth. The free passes cut his outing to only five innings. Walks bit Dario Alvarez and Jeremy Jeffress in the sixth. They combined to walk four, all with two outs as the Red Sox scored four times. Jeffress issued three walks, one intentionally.
