Rangers discover four Europa League foes as Erling Haaland and Borussia Dortmund is the early nightmare draw

Rangers and Gio van Bronckhorst have discovered half of the teams they could be drawn with in the Europa League knockout stage.

The Ibrox side can't overturn Lyon's top spot in Group A and that means they'll face a side dropping down from the Champions League group stage in the New Year.

With Tuesday night sorting out the first four sections in UEFA's top competition, that means Ibrox fans can start dreaming of the destinations they could be off to in the New Year - provided they're not dealt another Lyon-style away day farce.

In the early games RB Leipzig under caretaker management pulled off a heroic 2-1 win against Manchester City to leap ahead of Club Brugge, becoming the first potential opponent in the process.

Moldovan shock troops Sheriff Tiraspol have also dropped down after losing to Shakhtar Donetsk and are undoubtedly the easiest draw at the moment but still won't be pushovers given they dumped Real Madrid on their own patch.

On the other side of the coin is Borussia Dortmund. BVB were unable to overcome a massive goal difference deficit with second-placed Sporting despite thumping Besiktas 5-0 with star striker Erling Haaland scoring twice.

They drop down to the Europa League and could Haaland and company rock up at Ibrox?

Porto were the final team to drop down as one rammy after another in their heated clash with Atletico Madrid led to plenty of added time but a 3-1 loss spelled the end of their Champions League campaign.

Possible Rangers opponents: Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig (GER), FC Porto (POR), Sheriff Tiraspol (MOL)
