Rangers discover Champions League third qualifying round opponents

Rangers will face Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Russell Martin's side booked their spot in the next round by beating Panathinaikos.

[[Rangers]] drew 1-1 in Athens, which, partnered with the 2-0 win at Ibrox, saw them progress by a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

It can now be confirmed that Rangers will take on Czech side Plzen in the next round of qualifying.

Rangers were drawn against the winners of the tie between Servette and Viktoria Plzen.

Plzen overcame a 1-0 loss in the first leg at home to win 3-1 in Switzerland to progress into the next round, courtesy of an 87th-minute penalty.

The first leg of the third qualifying round will be played at Ibrox on August 5/6. The return leg will be played on Tuesday, August 12.

In order to reach the league phase of the competition, Rangers would have to win the upcoming round and then triumph in the play-off round.

The [[Ibrox]] club, though, are guaranteed Europa League football after advancing to the third qualifying round.

A loss in the third qualifying round would see Rangers drop into the league phase of the Europa League this season.
