Rangers discover Champions League play-off opponents as Giovanni van Bronckhorst to face old rivals

Rangers have learned it is PSV Eindhoven they will face in the Champions League play-off round.

Giovanni van Brockhorst' s men recovered from a two-goal deficit from last week's first-leg in Belgium to turn the tie around and move to within potentially 180 minutes of group stage football alongside Ange Postecoglou's and his Celtic side. Skipper James Tavernier opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time before Antonio Colak's header from close range and another headed goal from Malik Tillman completed the stunning turnaround in the second period as the home side ran out 3-0 winners on the night and 3-2 on aggregate.

They now know that PSV stand in their way following tonight's return clash between the pair. The duo played out a 1-1 draw in France last week with the second meeting in the Netherlands ending in a 3-2 win for the home side. One-time Rangers linked Joey Veerman fired the hosts in front but goals from Guillermo Maripan and Wissam Ben Yedder turned the tie on its head to make it 3-2 but the home side grabbed a last-gasp goal through Erick Gutierrez to take the tie to extra-time.

However, it was the Dutch side who emerged victorious following the 30 minutes of additional play to secure a crack at the Light Blues thanks to Luuk De Jong's winner to seal a 4-3 aggregate success.

The first meeting will take place at Ibrox next week with the return in the Netherlands one week later. It's a return to Holland for the Light Blues' Dutch boss, who had many battles with PSV as Feyenoord boss.

The group stage draw takes place on August 25 and Van Bronckhorst and Co will be dreaming of joining Europe's elite in the premier competition as the players and fans hope to hear that famous Champions League anthem under the lights at Ibrox on a regular basis this season.

But for now, all focus will be on the Eredivisie outfit after tonight's stunning comeback mission in Govan.
