Rangers diehard sparks Hotline apoplexy as fuming Celtic regulars cry HOGWASH over brazen trophy claim

Michael Beale has outlined his plans for the summer transfer window with the boss stating as many as five new faces could join Rangers.

However, the Light Blues still has work to do this season with a massive triple-header against Celtic looming in the Premiership and Scottish Cup. Beale has been unable to win in two outings so far against the champions since taking over and Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, believes the Hampden semi-final is huge for the boss.

He said: “I feel Beale should really only be judged next season. However, a semi final win against Celtic is a must as I feel the league title is now beyond Rangers.” Kenny Wallace, Dunblane, added: “Beale is going to have to get an awful lot of bodies out of the door as well as making signings as there is some real deadwood in there.” Record Sport columnist Barry Ferguson accepts a move for ex-Ibrox kid Billy Gilmour may be out of reach despite being a fan of the out-of-favour Brighton midfielder.

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “He left the Ibrox club to further his career. Going back would be a massive lack of ambition.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, added: “Gilmour wouldn’t get his place in the team that Beale is building, too lightweight.”

Another day of chat over John McMaster’s claims that Aberdeen’s 1983 Cup-Winners’ Cup triumph bettered the 1967 Celtic achievement of winning the European Cup.

George Wilson waded into the argument on yesterday’s Hotline suggesting the Parkhead success was in a low key staging of the tournament. That brought a furious response. Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Wilson’s comments are quite frankly embarrassing even for a delusional Rangers fan. To say the European cup the biggest trophy a club can win was a low key tournament back then just shows how clueless the man is. I’m sure all Madrid’s and Man Utd wins were also meaningless in a low key competition back then! Jealousy is not a good look.”

Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “Here’s the dummies guide of sporting advantages just for him. Lisbon Lions were all natives, local Lads and brought through the ranks and didn’t cost a bean old chap. Champions League teams are filled with foreigners in the modern game and teams pay £100m for one player. Rich clubs can practically BUY European success now. Back to your spaghetti hoops George and stop dribbling.”

Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire, added: “What unadulterated hogwash from reader George Wilson regards the Lisbon Lions. Rangers only qualified for entry into the Cup Winners Cup in 1971/72 as Scottish Cup losers to Champions Celtic. I get the impression that George is a butcher by trade because he talks mince regularly on Hotline.”

But Chris Lowe, Yoker, countered: “For me it’s got to be Aberdeen as apart from beating some fantastic sides along the way they also won the Super Cup.”

Scotland get their Euro 2024 campaign going against Cyprus tomorrow. Training has taken place at Lesser Hampden after a squad switch from the Oriam and assistant John Carver hammered the playing surface at Riccarton.

But Sandy Ritchie, Edinburgh, said: “You’ve got to laugh at John Carver‘s whinge about the playing surface at the Oriam when everyone knows that Hampden isn’t fit for a boys match, never mind an international. Train at the Oriam and play the internationals at Murrayfield until the Hampdem pitch is sorted.”

As Scotland prepares to get started in the Euros, England began their bid with an excellent win over Italy in Naples. But Charles Buchanan wasn’t happy as he said: “Luke Shaw got booked for time wasting. Rightly so. But what about record breaking wizard Harry Potter, I mean Kane, crawling on his hands and knees back onto the pitch to get the game stopped? That was cheating and time wasting should have been booked.”
