Rangers didn't miss Scottish Cup 'open goal' as Chris Sutton and Ally McCoist team up to take down host

It's not often you can get Chris Sutton and Ally McCoist to agree on anything.

Though the pair are clearly firm friends their status as respective Celtic and Rangers legends leaves the pair at loggerheads more often than not.

Their chemistry is a big part of the appeal of Scottish Football Extra, as is star host Darrell Currie.

And the pair teamed up to get one over on their pal on Friday night's edition after he described Rangers of having missed an 'open goal' in the Scottish Cup.

Steven Gerrard's side had already eliminated Celtic but lost to St Johnstone in a shock Sunday night result.

But neither Sutton or McCoist were having it when Currie suggested the path to the trophy had been easy.

Here's the full hilarious exchange.

Currie: "Rangers as well Ally, what a missed opportunity!"

McCoist: "A massively missed opportunity. I watched the game, watched the highlights, St Johnstone were absolutely excellent.

"They were brave, they were determined, organised, confident and even, to be fair to them, when they lost the goal that would have finished most teams off make no mistake about it.

"But the ending itself was absolutely remarkable. I did get back to my hotel room to watch the ending, I can't lie to you. I watched it live."

Sutton: "Were you off the sofa when Zander Clark went up? What's the goalie doing? That's what everybody thought..."

McCoist: "No, no. You know me, I'm very balanced paticularly when both my old teams are playing against each other!

"I thought, 'Zander's drifted into the box here and nobody noticed him. With his lime green jersey on. Standing in the six yard box.

"The only thing he didn't have was a big light flashing above his head with an arrow pointing!

"But no, fair play to him. We've had a great season and that was another magnificent game in terms of the excitement for everybody.

"And you've got to say, Callum (Davidson) and his boys are having a wonderful season. Wonderful season. If he wins another cup it's between him and Steven (Gerrard)."

Sutton: "Who would you pick though?"

McCoist: "I don't think it is as clear cut. At this stage I'd give it to Steven. I think obviously with the pressure on Rangers to stop Celtic's 10 In A Row."

Sutton: "When's the last time St Johnstone won two trophies in a season though?"

Currie: "Never."

McCoist: "Yeah but when was the last time Rangers stopped Celtic doing 10 In A Row and had an opportunity to go through the league campaign undefeated?"

Sutton: "You didn't answer!"

Currie: "Having already knocked Celtic out of the competition, having already won the league, that was an open goal for Rangers to go on and win a double."

McCoist: "Oh! Wait a minute!"

Sutton: "It wasn't an open goal Darrell!"

McCoist: "Open goal?!"

Currie: "They were odds-on favourites to win the competition, they've knocked out their biggest rivals, they're at home against St Johnstone in the quarter-finals."

Sutton: "I'm surprised at you, Darrell."

McCoist: "So am I. He's surprised me there, Chris. I think it's the first time in a long time you and I are in total agreement.

"The term 'open goal', at very best Chris, was questionable.

"It's shocking, the statement 'open goal'. They've missed an ideal opportunity, I'll give you that."

Sutton: "The fact they've knocked Celtic out... I'm not going to use the term 'open goal', totally disrespectful. Surprised at you, Darrell, with that.

Currie: "When YOU start calling ME disrespectful this show has gone I'll tell you that..."
