Rangers demise is overstated and they will have the last laugh when Celtic's season goes pear shaped again – Hotline

Rangers stopped the rut by demolishing Dunfermline and the Ibrox fans have hit back at claims Celtic are on the rise again.

It might have been a decent week for the Hoops but the Light Blues legions reckons they’ll still have the last laugh.

Alfie Mullen, London, said: “I hope the Celtic team are getting as carried away as the Celtic fans on the Hotline. Celtic might have had a few good results recently but they’ve played nobody of note.

“When they meet a decent side, it’ll all go pear shaped and I’ll be laughing as much as I was last season.”

Rab Picken, London, said: “Poor Chris Sutton is still not not over Helicopter Sunday. Cracks appearing at Ibrox? The guy’s a fool. A few top players banned or injured, on the same points as his beloved 10 in a row failures and in the same competition in Europe until they get knocked out by AZ Alkmaar. Tell Chris to assess us in January, if he has not cracked up by then.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “Celtic are on the same points as Rangers having played two promoted teams, they are out the same European competition to inferior opposition and three teams sit above them. How are they suddenly the best?

"Caller Gordon Ashley should become a comedian as us Rangers fans can do nothing but laugh at his ludicrous statements.”

George Wilson, Sussex, said: “We beat Celtic four times and drew once out of five yet it was all a fluke. They haven’t beaten us in the league for two years.

“Celtic have just beaten a very poor side twice in Europe and beat the worst team in SPFL having lost to a poor side in the Champions League. Yet suddenly they are hailed as world beaters.”

Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “The only fluke last season was that Celtic managed to get a point from us, now that was flukey.”

Andy Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: “I have never heard so much absolute rubbish saying supporters being back are hindering Rangers. What a load of garbage, but I suppose if you say it often enough, people will start to believe it.”

Gordon Ferguson, Kilwinning, said: “Nathan Patterson must be a starter in Thursday's Europa League match as he showed every quality that Rangers will require to defeat Alashkert. And didn’t Rangers play well in front of a packed Ibrox crowd. It seems the demise of this Rangers team is being slightly exaggerated and their bond with the fans is still strong as Ibrox was rocking once again.”

But Brian Quinn, Paisley, said: “Rangers need to find a way of getting new signings in because things have gone stale. An easy win against a team who last week were beaten 3-0 at home by a team playing League One football last season only papers over the cracks.

“I watched highlights of Ludogorets and we would have beaten them as they were second best throughout and very lucky to progress.”

Celtic are up and running, but not quickly enough for some.

David Bryce, Troon, said: “I am absolutely sick and tired of Dom McKay and the Celtic board haggling over transfer fees given they have sold out season tickets and raked in millions from player sales and recent European matches.

“They are making a fool of big Ange, who has given us all reason to believe again. The snail's pace in which they conduct transfer business is embarrassing. The current squad will not overcome AZ.”

Caller Kevin Lord suggests Hibs were best concentrating on the league rather than the Europa Conference.

But John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “What an attitude. Calling a tournament akin to the old UEFA Cup a non status building tournament takes the biscuit.

“Hibs should be embarrassed by the way we went out in Croatia. Build our status by finishing third in Scotland with £2m to buy better players. Way to go Kevin. Not bad for a club who’s fans continually berate the board for lack of ambition.”
