Rangers defender in fitness sweat ahead of Celtic fixture after withdrawing from national team squad

Rangers are sweating over the fitness of defender Filip Helander with the first Old Firm derby of the season just ten days away.

The centre back was sent home from international duty after turning up to the Sweden squad with a "light injury".

National team boss Janne Andersen made the decision to allow him to return to Rangers rather than risk aggravating his injury further.

Steven Gerrard will be hoping it's nothing too serious, and that he'll be fine to join in full training with the squad ahead of the trip to Celtic Park on October 17.

Ryan Jack is expected to be available for the Old Firm derby, although Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe are doubts for the match.

For Celtic Odsonne Edouard's involvement looks unlikely after he returned a positive COVID-19 test while on France Under-21 duty.

However Albian Ajeti could be fit to return after suffering a hamstring injury against Hibs last month.
