Rangers curse in Hong Kong Sevens Final continues as Newcastle run out winners

Rangers lost out in the final of the Hong Kong Sevens tournament for the second year in a row after defeat to Newcastle.

It was the same story as last season with the English Premier League side making it two in a row.

The game had gone into sudden death extra time with Newcastle then grabbing the winner.

Andrew Dallas had given Rangers the lead with an early double in the first half before Newcastle fought back in the second through Owen Bailey and Luke Charman.

A penalty from Elias Sorensen put the Toon ahead before Josh McPake took it to extra time.

In extra time, it drops from seven-a-side to four-a-side with both teams taking their keeper off and playing an outfield player between the sticks.

Rangers had Matthew Shiels in goals and Newcastle had Bailey.

And it was the Magpies goalkeeper that grabbed the winner when he struck three minutes into sudden death.

It's the fourth time Rangers have been beaten in the Hong Kong Sevens Final during their time going to the tournament.
