Rangers Covid five hit with Scottish FA notice of complaint and face Hampden hearing

The Rangers Covid five have been hit with a notice of complaint from the Scottish FA.

Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey, Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnera were all caught by Police attending an illegal lockdown house party last month.

Having already faced internal disciplinary procedures from the Ibrox club, they’ll now be hauled up in front of the Hampden beaks on Thursday 25 March.

Patterson, Zungu and Bassey all made public apologies and were allowed to return to the squad by manager Steven Gerrard, although he predicted that further action would be taken by the football authorities.

The players are accused of breaking rules 24 and 77 of the SFA disciplinary regulations, which concern failing to abide by Covid protocols and failing to "act in the best interests of association football".

Rule 24 states: "A recognised football body, club, official, team official or other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall be subject to and shall comply with the articles, the laws of the game and the rules, procedures and regulations, bye-laws and decisions of the Scottish FA.

And rule 77 states: "A recognised football body, club, official, team official, other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of association football. Furthermore such person or body shall not act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour."

Late last year, George Edmundson and Jordan Jones were slapped with seven game bans after a similar infraction.

The pair were then shipped out on loan to Sunderland and Derby Country respectively during the January transfer window.
