Rangers Covid 5 in Celtic reprieve hope as Scottish Cup revamp could see Nathan Patterson and Bongani Zungu return

The first-team Rangers players who breached strict rules to attend a a lockdown party are set to return against Celtic - IF they go on a Scottish Cup run.

With the current fixture list, Calvin Bassey, Nathan Patterson and Bongani Zungu are all set to miss the cup tie against Cove Rangers, as well as Premiership fixtures against Hibs, St Johnstone and Celtic.

However, they first-team trio still have the chance to return for derby day if their teammates can help them with progress in the competition.

If Rangers can see off Paul Hartley's Cove, their next cup tie will take place on April 17.

Should they continue into the next round, the packed fixture list will see Steven Gerrard 's side squeeze in another Scottish Cup tie on April 24.

That means that the suspension will be over for the trio by the time the Glasgow giants go head-to-head on May 2.

Dapo Mebude, on loan at Queen of the South, could also enjoy the same cup benefit as he looks to return for a Championship play-off push. The Dumfries side will face Hibs in the cup this weekend.

Goalkeeper Brian Kinnear will miss four games on loan at League Two side Annan.

All of the five will be able to return before the end of the season, which is good news for the those who want to take part in the title party for the new champions.

The Premiership winners will get their hands on the trophy after a 10-year wait when they round off the campaign at home to Aberdeen on May 15.
