Rangers could play in European mini-tournament as UEFA look to finish Europa League in one city

Rangers could be set to take part in a mini World Cup-style event as UEFA look to finish the Europa League.

According to ESPN, a mini-tournament could take place at one venue, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Commerzbank Arena the preferred choice.

The final was due to be held in Gdansk but this is now unlikely to happen.

Rangers lost the first leg of their last-16 clash against Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 in what was one of the last football matches to take place before the sport was shut down due to COVID-19.

In addition to Rangers and Leverkusen, Wolves, Olympiacos, Getafe, Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk, Wolfsburg, Roma, Sevilla, Copenhagen, Istanbul Basaksehir, Basel, Eintracht Frankfurt, Manchester United and LASK remain in the competition.

A two-day UEFA summit is scheduled to take place across June 17 and 18 where a number of issues surrounding international calendars, league fixture rounds and European match dates will be discussed.

And national leagues and associations will have to wait until then to announce next season's calendar.

Le Graet said: "UEFA will now take two days to get through this meeting.

"I believe all the international calendars, the league fixture rounds and the dates of the Champions League and Europa League will be official on the afternoon of June 18.

"Each national association and league can then publish their calendars after that.

"We have already prepared ours, but there is nothing we can do officially until UEFA confirm the dates and that's the same with every country in Europe."
