Rangers continue to answer Nicola Sturgeon's call to action as players echo Celtic clash mantra once more

Scottish Premiership winners Rangers have stepped up their campaign to ensure supporters stay away from Celtic Park for this weekend's derby.

The Ibrox club have been on alert after some fans flouted social distancing regulations to celebrate their title win earlier this month.

The scenes led to widespread criticism and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been reluctant to rule out extreme measures, which could include cancelling the game altogether if fans don't stick to the rules.

Rangers maintain they did all they could to encourage fans to stay at home. But both they and rivals Celtic have been called upon by the Scottish Government to take more responsibility to avoid a repeat of the March 7 scenes at Ibrox and George Square.

The Glasgow clubs have responded and James Tavernier and John Kennedy have both urged supporters to stay away from the crunch derby on Sunday.

And that has now been followed up by Rangers who posted a video on their Twitter, which featured a number of players repeating the mantra 'stay home, stay safe, support the NHS, support Rangers.'

That followed a statement on Tuesday morning that confirmed the club had met with 'support groups and key influencers' to discuss the situation.

It read: "Rangers can confirm that we met with supporters groups and key influencers this morning, in relation to the Old Firm game at Parkhead on Sunday.

"We are very pleased that our support is fully aligned on our messaging which has been underlined by both our manager and captain over the weekend.

"Stay at home. Stay safe. Support the NHS. Support Rangers."
