Rangers continue Black Lives Matter message as players take the knee before Lyon clash

Rangers players have taken the knee prior to their pre-season friendly with Lyon in France.

All 22 stars dropped to one knee ahead of kick-off as they showed their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Ibrox striker Jermain Defoe has spoken recently about the need to continue support for the protests that have been happening since the death of George Floyd back in May.

Speaking last month, he said: “In the Premier League players are taking a knee and I wondered if it would happen in Scotland. I believe it will happen.

“I hope when the season starts we will take a knee and be part of this powerful movement.

“At the end of the day, black lives matter. It is nice to see, black and white players, everyone is coming together."

Now Defoe's Rangers team-mates have taken the knee in the Veolia Trophy in France.

Prior to kick-off against Lyon, both sets of players as well as the subs and coaching staff of either side showed their support.

Managers Steven Gerrard and Rudi Garcia both took part and it comes after the same happened in Celtic's clash with Nice earlier this evening.
