Rangers 'consider' Frank Castaneda deal as Colombian forward weighs up next move after Sheriff Tiraspol exit

Rangers are reportedly considering a move for Colombian forward Frank Castaneda.

The 27-year-old is available as a free agent, following the expiry of his contract at Sheriff Tiraspol.

Castaneda played a key role when the Moldovans pulled off a shock win over Real Madrid.

Tiraspol beat Real 2-1 at the Bernabeu in the Champions League group stage in late September.

The Sunday Post is reporting that Castaneda, who played 78 minutes of the upset before being substituted, is now a target for the Scottish Premiership champions.

Castaneda started his career in South America at Venezuelan side Caracas before moving to Orsomarso.

As countryman Alfredo Morelos did, Castaneda moved to Europe when he joined Slovakian team Senica in 2018.

He spent two years there before moving to Moldova last summer, scoring 33 goals in 42 appearances last season.

Empoli and Salernitana in Italy, Samsunspor in Turkey, Sochi from Russia and Bundesliga side Augsburg are all said to be tracking Castaneda.

Rangers have some room to manoeuvre in the transfer market after the sale of Nathan Patterson to Everton for an initial fee in the region of £11.5million.

They have already added James Sands from New York City in the January window, the adaptable player arriving on an 18-month loan deal, with an option to buy.
