Rangers confirm exit of Juan Alegria with over a year left on contract

Rangers have confirmed that striker Juan Alegria has departed the club, despite having time left on his contract.

The Colombian frontman spent the first part of this season on loan at Falkirk, where he netted six goals in 16 games in League One.

Alegria was then recalled by Rangers in January and the club have today confirmed that he will return to the club that he was signed from.

A statement read: “Rangers can today confirm that Juan Alegria has joined FC Honka on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

“We wish Juan all the best for the future.”

Alegria signed a three-year deal at Rangers from FC Honka in Finland back in August of 2021.

On Instagram, the striker said his farewells to the club. He said: "Thanks to everyone helped me to be better at Rangers. Thanks so much to my friends from kitchen staff, laundry room, kit room, physio room and finally to the best fans I have had so far in my sports career, was really good to meet you and share good moments beside some of you.

"Football rolls just like the ball and life, at some point in life we will meet again.

"My goals do not stop, I continue to strengthen myself for what I have prepared for in this process and I will achieve it."

Meanwhile, Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor will decide at the end of the season whether to play on into next term.

The 41-year-old made his 500th appearance for the club in Saturday’s cinch Premiership win over Dundee United, but his contract expires in the summer and, with Ibrox boss Michael Beale being linked with other keepers, it is unclear whether the veteran will opt to continue.

McGregor was in a similar position a year ago when it was widely speculated that he might be ready to call time on his career, but he agreed a new one-year deal in the summer and remains the club’s number one.

“I need to focus on the games, let the season finish and make my decision then,” he told Sky Sports when asked about his future plans. “That’s exactly what I did last year. I’ll concentrate until the end of the season and see what happens then.”
