Rangers to tackle Derby in final pre-season friendly as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard lock horns

Frank Lampard is heading to Ibrox to lock horns with his old England midfield colleague Steven Gerrard after Rangers confirmed a pre-season friendly with Derby County.

The Ibrox fixture, scheduled for Sunday July 28, will be Rangers' final warm-up match ahead of the Premiership campaign.

It is the fourth Sunday serving during July for Gers fans with Oxford United, Marseille and Blackburn Rovers all teed-up for friendlies in the three weeks beforehand.

As well as boss Lampard, Derby include former Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn in their ranks and will provide a stiff test for Gerrard 's new-look Rangers.

The Rams narrowly missed out on a Play-Off Final spot after losing to Aston Villa on penalty kicks in last month's semi final.

Lampard and Gerrard were midfield rivals at Chelsea and Liverpool for a golden generation in the Premier League and also international teammates with England.

Rangers' Europa League campaign kicks off on July 11 and, should they make it through the first qualifying round, then the Derby match will fall in between the first and second legs of the second round.

Gerrard will use the friendly fixtures to blood his new signings with Thursday's addition of Greg Stewart the fourth arrival so far.

Wingers Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie have also signed on while Steven Davis' loan switch from Southampton was made permanent.

The Derby friendly will kick-off at 3pm and ticket information will be confirmed in due course.
