Rangers have signed ex-Hearts defender James Penrice from AEK Athens on a loan deal.
The left-back returns to the Premiership a year after moving to Greece, with Rangers having the option to make the move permanent next summer for a fee of around £1.75 million.
Penrice's addition strengthens Derek McInnes' squad as Tuur Rommens is sidelined for up to eight weeks due to injury.
He will now compete for the left-back position as Rommens works his way back to fitness.
Penrice began his career at Partick Thistle, enjoyed loan spells at East Fife and Livingston, and made a permanent move to the Lions.
His impressive campaign at Tynecastle saw him win individual Player of the Year awards and earn a spot in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.
Rangers had shown interest in Penrice last summer before his move to the continent.
The club had also considered Jayden Meghoma recently but ultimately settled on Penrice.
McInnes said: "We’re excited to welcome James to the club and believe he will be a very good addition to the squad.
"He plays in an area of the pitch where we are currently a little light, so it was important that we brought in someone who can bolster us in that position and provide competition.
"James already has valuable experience of the Scottish Premiership and understands the demands of the club, and from speaking to him it was clear he is hungry to work hard and continue progressing in his career.
"We are excited to start working with him and hopefully see him make a strong contribution for the club."
Rangers are still on the lookout for more squad additions.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh suggested last week that up to five new recruits could be added this summer, with work ongoing for another defensive option and addressing weaknesses in the final third.
The Rangers Review revealed on Friday morning that the deal to sign winger Couhaib Driouech had collapsed due to an issue discovered during his medical.
Rangers had agreed a £7 million fee with PSV Eindhoven and personal terms as Driouech was given the go-ahead to travel to the UK.
The club decided not to finalise the deal over concerns about when the Moroccan would be ready to play for McInnes' side.
Other targets are now being pursued in the final third.
