Rangers Colts awarded 3-0 win over Ayr United as Honest Men kicked out of SPFL Trust Trophy

Ayr United have pledged "lessons will be learned" after being kicked out of the SPFL Trust Trophy over a rules breach.

The Honest Men were charged with fielding two ineligible players in last week's 3-0 win against Rangers Colts.

Kinlay Bilham and Alex Jeanes – who are on loan to West of Scotland League clubs – came on as late substitutes in the match at Dumbarton.

But their nine-minute cameo has cost Ayr a place in the competition after league bosses today reversed the result.

Somerset chairman David Smith said his club found the punishment "harsh" but confirmed they would not appeal the decision.

Smith told the Ayrshire Post: "We accept that we made a mistake and we accept the punishment as a result of that.

"However, we do feel it is slightly harsh given the spirit of the competition is to play the youngsters.

"So that is disappointing, but we will accept it and move on.

"We have reviewed all of our processes around player eligibility and lessons will be learned."

Bilham is on loan at Irvine Meadow while Jeanes is currently farmed out to Girvan, but neither had been recalled before featuring in last Tuesday's tie.

Ayr ran out comfortable winners on the night with goals from Daire O'Connor, Joe Chalmers and Markus Fjortoft.
