Rangers coach Michael Beale's ban shocker is the latest SFA blunder after Leigh Griffiths let off - Hotline

Rangers coach Michael Beale was hit with a whopping five-game ban for his bust-up with Celtic counterpart John Kennedy in the festive derby.

But Gers fans believe it’s time the SFA’s conduct went under the microscope in the latest round of Scottish football whataboutery.

Stuart McLean, Stepps, said: “Here we ago again with the SFA blunder bus. Michael Beale and John Kennedy have a shouting match and Beale receives a five-match ban. Tom Culshaw and John Potter have an angry exchange at Easter Road and despite Potter being the aggressor Culshaw gets a ban. Potter gets 100 lines.

“This is in the same week we witnessed Griffiths escape any punishment for a violent stamp on an opponent. Different rules for different teams the Gers fans must act and boycott all away grounds.

“I remember Lennon and McCoist almost rolling about the touchline at Celtic Park and the penalties were nowhere near as harsh.”

Not quite rolling around the ground Stuart but the punishments were certainly less severe with Neil Lennon hit with a four game ban and McCoist two games.

Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “Five games for a first offence for a bit of verbals is a shocker. Considering that Lennon has had multiple offences over the years and never received anything as severe as this only further exposes the cartel that’s ruining Scottish football.”

Ian Louden, Dunfermline, said: “My goodness Leigh Griffiths absolved of a deliberate stamp on an opponent. What a relief oh sorry what a joke. I assume now this lot are now like Elliott Ness - The Untouchables!”

On to other matters and Rangers fans on the Hotline were getting it in the neck for claims Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs raise their game against their side.

Lance Little, Erskine, said: “It's quite funny to hear Rangers fans blaming their recent woeful results on other teams raising their games.

“So it's not the fact that since 2020 started their team have not turned up or the fact that due to his disciplinary record their top goalscorer missed 3 matches?

“They gloated all over the new year period despite still being 2nd in the league. Some things come back to bite you on the bum.”

James McClean, Isle of Bute, added: “Rangers always lift their game when playing Celtic or does that not count?”

And Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “So caller George Wilson feels Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen only turn up against Rangers? Does he know they beat these teams 5-0, 6-1 and 5-0 at home this season?”

Alfredo Morelos and ‘Translationgate’ was still on the agenda for some callers after Celtic complained to Ofcom.

Rangers fan Brian Quinn, Paisley, said: ‘Why are Celtic the only club that are defending Alfredo Morelos?

“Our club should be vigorously defending the player but yet nothing and Steven Gerrard talks of just moving on? The whole thing stinks and I fear that this is going to explode into a mess.”

But Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellon, said: “I'm not sure what else Sky Sports are meant to do regarding Translategate. They have apologised to Celtic, Rangers and even Alfredo Morelos himself. I think Peter Lawwell should just drop it and move on.”

Michael MacCrimmon, Uddingston, paid tribute to Kenny Miller following the veteran’s decision to hang up the boots. He said: “As a Celtic fan can I just wish Kenny Miller a thank you for all he did in football.

"I always hoped my team would sign him and happy to say we finally got him, if only a short period. He should be held up as an example of giving 100 effort for every shirt you wear, club and country. Cheers Kenny, total professional.”

Finally, angry Aberdeen fan Iain Alan emailed: “Another defeat, no goals scored again and yet another sloppy goal conceded.

"If the Aberdeen management team think it is a small minority not happy then think they need to waken up, just like the back four. If Kilmarnock win on Saturday it's season over.”
