Rangers coach Michael Beale details four ways Scotland could overhaul failing national team

Rangers coach Michael Beale has detailed four key changes Scotland could make to improve our floundering national side.

He also reckons youth coaches take too much flak when kids fail to make the grade and backed calls for Rangers and Celtic Colts teams to be introduced into the SPFL.

Beale worked for Liverpool and Sao Paolo before joing Steven Gerrard at Ibrox and often shares his football views on Twitter.

Now he has turned attention to the Scotland national team and believes the talent is there if it can be harnessed in the right way.

It follows Rangers director of football Mark Allen's calls for Colt sides to be allowed into the professional setup, with a similar model proving successful for Ajax in the Netherlands.

Beale wrote on his official account: "When a national team coach is sacked, or team don’t win/qualify for tournaments. It always the youth coaches who get a rough deal via the media on “why we aren’t producing players”.

"Has always been the way in Eng & I’m now reading it in Scot too. Many more issues than that.

"A few things to help them grow (1) Game must not be based on physicality (pro refs, tougher refereeing & VAR help) (2) better pathway - B teams would help process hugely (3) the right coach, style, players working together (4) faith/patience.

Mark Allen makes Rangers and Celtic plea for rivals to listen to Pep Guardiola and back Colts

"English clubs managed to adopt 3 of that list in the last few yrs & we are now really proud to watch/support our national team.

"The one missing (B teams) is something the PL clubs would love to have. That’s never going to happen in England, but could be a huge asset to the SFA!"
