Rangers 'closing in' on Fashion Sakala transfer as Steven Gerrard's men in advanced talks with star

Rangers are on the verge of signing Oostende striker Fashion Sakala, according to a report.

Steven Gerrard has been a long-term admirer of the 24-year-old as the Ibrox club first registered their interest in January.

And the Daily Record claims Rangers are now in 'advanced talks' with the forward over a move to Govan.

Sakala has attracted interest across Europe including Lille and teams in Belgium, but it's believed he is favouring a switch to Ibrox with the prospect of playing Champions League football next season under Gerrard.

Oostende hoped to tie Sakala down on a long-term deal, but it appears they have been unsuccessful with their attempts.

The Zambia international has scored 13 goals in 28 league games for Oostende, helping his side finish fifth in the table alongside Celtic loanee Jack Hendry.

Rangers have been renowned for getting their business done early in previous seasons and it's not been any different despite winning the Premiership this term.

Gerrard wants to strengthen his side for their title defence and has already brought in Scott Wright and Jack Simpson on pre-contracts.

And Sakala looks to be the next deal done and dusted if Rangers can get the deal across the finish line.
