Rangers close to Malmo Champions League clash after Swedish champions beat Helsinki

Malmo are in the driving seat to face Rangers in the third round qualifying round in the Champions League.

The Swedish champions claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Helsinki in the first leg at the Swedbank Stadium tonight.

Anders Christiansen netted the winner in the 75th minute after Roope Riske had scored a shock equaliser with Antonio Colak opening the scoring.

Malmo will travel to Helsinki next week in a good position although there are no longer away goals for this year’s competition.

Rangers have an unblemished 11-0 record in European qualification since Steven Gerrard was appointed manager but Malmo will be a tough test.
