Rangers clash with Sparta Prague probed by UEFA amid Glen Kamara booing row

UEFA have opened an investigation into alleged "discriminatory incidents" during Rangers ' visit to Sparta Prague.

European football's governing body has appointed an "ethics and disciplinary inspector" to probe last week's Europa League clash in the Czech Republic.

It's believed the investigation centres on Ibrox star Glen Kamara being repeatedly booed by a crowd including 10,000 children throughout the home side's 1-0 group stage victory, with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard later urging UEFA to act.

Kamara was the victim of racial abuse when Rangers' met Sparta's rivals Slavia Prague in the last 16 stage of last season's competition.

Slavia's Ondrej Kudela received a 10-match ban for racist comments aimed at the Finland international.

But the Rangers midfielder was jeered on his return to the Czech Republic before being sent off for two bookable offences.

And now European football's governing body have appointed launched a probe on Tuesday, although they have not revealed the full details of the investigation as yet.

A UEFA statement said: "In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding potential discriminatory incidents allegedly occurring during the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League group stage match between AC Sparta Praha and Rangers FC played on 30 September 2021.

"Information on this matter will be made available in due course."

Sparta's Stadion Letna had earlier been ordered closed by UEFA for Rangers' visit after racist abuse was aimed at Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchouameni during a Champions League qualifier in August.

But the ban was relaxed with special permission to welcome a crowd of kids instead.

Sparta later hit out furiously at criticism of the toxic atmosphere, insisting "cowardly" attacks were being aimed at the young supporters.
