Rangers clash excites former Kilmarnock starlet who is gearing up for Betfred Cup tie

Former Kilmarnock midfielder Ross Davidson is gearing up for a Betfred Cup clash with Rangers this weekend.

His East Fife side play host to the Ibrox side this weekend as they look to secure a quarter-final spot in the competition.

It won't be easy for the Methil side, and Davidson is under no illusions of how tough the task will be to overcome their opponents.

He said: "This is my first time playing against Rangers, I'm excited to be fair.

"It's games like this you want to play in as a footballer, it's not everyday that Steven Gerrard comes to Bayview!

"The fans and players just need to enjoy it while it lasts, and if we can spring a surprise then even better."

Davidson, 25, still stays in Kilmarnock and played with the club for five years between 2010 and 2015.

He then headed to Albion Rovers before moving to East Fife last season.

He grew up a Killie supporter and still attends games when he can.

He said: "I loved playing for Killie, my time there was amazing.

"I only played maybe seven or eight games for the first team, but I enjoyed it.

"I grew up a Killie supporter, so it was a dream come true playing for my boyhood club.

"I broke into the first team when Kenny Shiels was in charge, and he offered me a three-year deal.

"But that was the year he left, so I ended up going on loan to Albion and I eventually signed.

"I guess when you're young you take it for granted and don't realise how lucky you are.

"I get to Killie games when I can, I am still friends with Rory McKenzie and some of the other lads."

It won't be the first time Davidson has battled an Old Firm side, he faced Celtic with Albion during their 3-0 Scottish Cup defeat in 2017.

He said: "It was a big game that, it actually got moved to Airdrie so that more fans could get in.

"I played the full game, it was some experience. It was certainly a challenge!"
