Rangers Champions League third qualifying round date confirmed

The date for Rangers' Champions League third qualifying round home leg tie has been confirmed.

Michael Beale's side will face either Genk or Servette in a two-legged affair, with the first leg played at Ibrox.

UEFA has revealed that the tie will take place on Wednesday, August 9. The match will start at 7.45pm.

Rangers will look to gain home advantage against either the Belgian or Swiss league runners-up as they attempt to get a step closer to the Champions League group stages.

The return leg will then be played away from home for the Light Blues on Tuesday, August 15.

Should Rangers progress to the play-off round, they will face one of Marseille, PSV Eindhoven, Sturm Graz, Dnipro-1 or Panathinaikos for a place in the Champions League proper.

The draw for the final qualification round takes place on Monday, August 7.

Rangers defeated Union Saint-Gilloise and PSV Eindhoven last summer under Giovanni van Bronckhorst to return to the Champions League after a 12-year hiatus from UEFA's top club competition.

Servette and Genk served up a 1-1 draw last night, meaning their second-leg tie next week hangs in the balance.

Tolu Arokodare fired Genk into an early lead in Switzerland after just 21 minutes player.

However, experienced defender Steve Rouiller equalised with ten minutes left on the clock to ensure that the game remains tight heading into next week's decider.

The Rangers Review team is taking the hugely-popular morning briefing LIVE at New Edmiston House on July 28.
