Rangers, Celtic and SPFL clubs to finish season by June 30th as European Leagues agree to UEFA deadline

European Leagues have committed to finishing domestic seasons by 30th June, as UEFA continues its response to the Coronavirus emergency.

UEFA have been in video conferences with the European Club Association, European Leagues as well as its 55 member nations throughout Tuesday as they look to find a workable solution to the fixture disruption.

Virtually all of European football currently on hold until April, and meetings resulted in Euro 2020 being postponed until 2021 in order to give leagues an extra few weeks to wrap up their seasons.

And now European Leagues - who represent the SPFL and the English Premier League among 27 members - have committed to the deadline, and will work towards finishing domestic seasons by July.

If the deadline is met, teams in Scotland and England would be able to provide players with a short summer break before returning for pre-season training.

The June 30 date would also prevent contract expiry dates from causing any further fixture chaos.

Some deals finish at the end of the month meaning that many players would be ineligible to feature in matches which take place from July onwards - even if they remain part of the 2019/20 season.
