Rangers captain James Tavernier explains why this is the strongest Ibrox squad he's been part of

Rangers captain James Tavernier has explained why this is the most exciting squad he's been a part of in his five years at the club.

The full-back has started the season in brilliant form, both offensively and defensively.

He's scored in each of Rangers' last three matches, and says the freedom at which he's been able to get forward points to the quality they have all over the pitch.

He said: "I believe this season our squad has got even stronger. The management, recruitment and board have done an amazing job to find the players we need and bring them in.

"We've been hit with a few injuries but you've seen the players who have come in to replace them.

"We've got an amazing squad this season so it's only right that that we're showing it on the pitch.

"We're pushing each other on every single day on the training pitch and if the squad's rotated like it was last night, players are coming in and doing a job the gaffer wants. It's really good and it's really exciting."

Asked if there were parallels with his first season at the club in 2015/16 where Mark Warburton's side dominated the second tier, he added: "I think so. At that time our squad was very strong to play in the Championship. That's the same case now.

"The squad's got a lot stronger. We've got great quality in the squad and that allows players such as ourselves to express ourselves even more.

"It's great to play in. I'm really excited about this season, and all the boys are looking forward to it."
