Rangers captain James Tavernier accused of dangerous driving as trial date set

Rangers captain James Tavernier will stand trial next year accused of dangerous driving.

James Tavernier, 30, allegedly repeatedly travelled at excessive speeds on April 21 this year.

Prosecutors state the defender committed the offence at Crow Road and Anniesland Road in the Glasgow's west end as well as Canniesburn Toll in Bearsden.

The charge states Tavernier also broke sharply in order to comply with a red traffic light and repeatedly accelerated from the light at speed.

It is further alleged that the right-back overtook and undertook motor vehicles travelling on the roadway there when it was not safe to do so.

Court papers lastly claim this was done whilst Tavernier was driving in tandem with another motor vehicle.

Tavernier pled not guilty to the charge at a hearing in Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A trial was set for April next year, with a court hearing also fixed for March.

Tavernier, of the city's Strathblane, had his bail continued meantime.
