Rangers candidate Philippe Clement 'holding out for long term commitment'

Rangers managerial candidate Philippe Clement is reportedly holding out for a long term commitment from the Ibrox club.

It's claimed the former Monaco boss is interested in the Ibrox position but is keen to have assurances in place over his future being guaranteed past a short stint.

The Daily Record claims Clement has concerns over a switch due to the relatively short-lived stays of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale at Rangers.

Van Bronckhorst was only in the Rangers dugout for 12 months while Beale was relieved of his duties after just over 10 months in charge at Ibrox.

Belgian boss Clement - who was sacked by Monaco earlier this year - is reportedly keen for guarantees to be in place should he take on the job at Rangers.

It's further stated Clement has held talks with Saudi club Al-Shabab with the club reportedly keen to make him their new manager amid Ibrox interest.

Ibrox chiefs have vowed to take time to ensure the correct appointment is made with Clement and Kevin Muscat the two favourites to make the switch to Rangers.

Steven Davis stepped up into the position of interim manager after Beale was sacked two weeks ago. He was in charge for defeat to Aris Limassol and victory over St Mirren before the international break.

On his future, he said: "I really don’t know. My remit was to come and take these two games first and foremost. Now it gives the club and the board to get someone in place. Who knows what will happen in the future.

"Have I managed to enjoy it? It has been intense and different. In moments I have probably enjoyed it but I would need to sit down and review it. It has all been one thought process after another."
