COLUMBUS, Ohio _ It was here about a month ago when Henrik Lundqvist made what entering Friday was a season-high 40 saves but only received one goal of support.
Friday was a familiar evening. Lundqvist again made 40 saves but the Rangers lost to the Blue Jackets, 2-0. The Rangers (9-9-2,) who have lost two straight following a six-game win streak, were shut out for the first time this season.
Artemi Panarin's power-play goal at 7:14 of the third gave Columbus a 2-0 lead after Kevin Hayes failed to clear the zone at the half-wall.
Zach Werenski netted the opening goal at 13:34 of a second period in which the Rangers were outshot, 19-9. Lundqvist had stopped 32 of 33 shots, a healthy full-game workload through two periods, and for the second time this season in this building the Blueshirts wasted a strong effort from their goaltender.
Lundqvist had started well two days earlier in a loss to the Blackhawks, stopping their first 25 shots before a late equalizer in the second and defensive breakdowns early in the third.
