Rangers can reach Europa League final says Tam McManus as he rates current vintage above Walter Smith's side

Tam McManus believes the current Rangers team are even better than Walter Smith's and can emulate their European success.

Steven Gerrard's men are undefeated in the Europa League this season and face Slavia Prague in the last 16.

McManus believes they can beat the Czech champions and, with the right draw, emulate the final berth of 2008.

And the pundit believes this vintage is even better than the side which lost to Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester.

McManus said on PLZ Soccer: "I think this Rangers team is a better team than the Walter Smith team.

"I just think this team is a better side. Certainly better to watch than Walter Smith's, no disrespect to those guys.

"I think Gerrard sets his teams out to go and win, to go and open the game up and go man-for-man.

"He believes they're better than the teams they're coming up against.

"I think if they get a lucky draw they can get to the semi-final, possibly the final.

"I just think you need to avoid Manchester United. I think Man United are the favourites with the bookies and I think they're the strongest team in it.

"I think if they can avoid them Rangers would fancy it against a lot of the other teams because they're playing so well."
