Rangers boss Steven Gerrard slams Croatian FA over handling of Borna Barisic

Steven Gerrard has hit out at the Croatian FA over their handling of Borna Barisic's injury.

The Rangers left back was hurt on international duty and will miss Sunday's trip to face Celtic.

Gerrard will have Scott Arfield, Andy Halliday and Ryan Jack available – but he's unimpressed with how the situation was dealt after Barisic injured his hamstring.

The full back was crocked on international duty but wasn’t sent home to be assessed by Rangers medical staff and the manager insisted he will not allow a repeat with any of his stars in the future.

Rangers squad revealed as key players return ahead of Celtic trip

Gerrard said: “It is disappointing because he should be available.

“He had a small chance but we never got him back till a couple of days later, for whatever reason.

“We pay the players’ wages. Out of respect for the club he should be on the first flight back and our medical team should take over.

“We’ll change the rules for all our players from the summer. If you’re not on the next flight, you are going to leave yourself wide open to a punishment.”
