Rangers boss Steven Gerrard set to learn whether he faces punishment for Alfredo Morelos claim

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is set to learn whether he faces any punishment for comments he made about a tackle on Alfredo Morelos following the win against Dundee United last month.

Gerrard was originally expected to find out during a remote SFA hearing on Friday, however this was pushed back to Monday as the Zoom call they were all on kept crashing.

The matter relates to comments Gerrard made about a Ryan Edwards tackle which left Alfredo Morelos with a gash in his knee.

When asked if it should have been a red card, the Rangers boss said: "I don't want to make any headlines and say the kid should have got this, or should have got that. I don't want to be that type of manager. But what I would say is I'd be very interested to see what the decision would have been from the officials if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Alfredo who's made that tackle."

Gerrard was hit with an SFA notice of complaint in the aftermath.

However in a statement, Rangers  said they were "bemused" to see a notice of complaint raised and vowed to defend their manager.

They add: "As is often the case,  Steven Gerrard  was asked for his view on a flashpoint in the match, with leading questions relating to the challenge that caused the injury and whether it should have been deemed a red card. On several occasions, he refused to do so.

"Given the wide range of incidents in Scottish football so far this season, we are perplexed that this issue has been raised and cited for complaint.

"Whilst our national sport faces an unprecedented crisis, it is baffling that resources are used to charge Rangers’ manager based on a flawed and inaccurate interpretation of Steven Gerrard’s remarks.

"Rangers will fully support its manager against this charge during the scheduled hearing."
