Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says it would be 'harsh and cruel' if they didn't beat Kilmarnock

Steven Gerrard reckons it would have been "harsh" and "cruel" if his side didn't get all three points from their clash with Kilmarnock.

Connor Goldson grabbed a stoppage time winner after Scott Arfield and Stephen O'Donnell goals had the sides level.

Gerrard said: "I think the story will be about set-pieces to be honest, we won that battle two to one.

"I thought it would have been really harsh and cruel if we didn't come away with maximum points.

"We controlled the majority of the game.

"We switched off at the back post for the free-kick, there's a few things we need to learn from pretty quickly.

"But in the main I am pleased with the character and the effort the players gave."

He added: "Kilmarnock took 10 points away from us last season, so it was important we came here and took maximum points.

"Sometimes it's about more than playing nice, it won't be pretty, you just need to get over the line."
