Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says he’s 'running out of ideas' as he slams 'crazy' Allan McGregor

Steven Gerrard hit out at Allan McGregor and his team's discipline as a whole after the Rangers keeper saw red against Hibs, saying "he's running out of ideas" on how to deal with it.

McGregor was sent-off in the dying minutes of the game after inexplicably kicking out at Marc McNulty.

The Scotland striker was in close proximity to McGregor as the keeper launched a kick upfield - McGregor took issue and attempted to rake his studs down McNulty's back once the ball had gone downfield.

It came just moments after McGregor had saved his side with an outstanding stop from Flo Kamberi, as the hosts secured a 1-0 victory at Ibrox.

Rangers have now clocked up 12 red cards during this campaign, with Gerrard left bemused and frustrated once more.

The Light Blues boss told Sky Sports after the game: "Another lack of discipline, across the season, has cost us a lot as well.

"Again, another crazy bit of discipline which, hasn't damaged us today because we managed to get over the line and win the game, but it'll probably hurt us in the next couple of games.

Rangers keeper Allan McGregor banned for Celtic clash after being sent off for outrageous kick at Marc McNulty

"I'm running out of ideas on what to do. It's not good enough. The players need to improve it. Again, I'll try and address it. I'm not sure of the exact number of red cards, but it's not acceptable. It's not good enough."

Gerrard was perplexed as to why McGregor decided to kick-out, just moments after the former Scotland goalie had effectively won his team all three points with a world-class stop.

He added: "Allan McGregor has been one of our best players all season. He was in the running for player of the year and rightly so. Again you see the reason why he's highly rated as a goalkeeper because he pulls off a world class save to get you three points. But then, it's another crazy moment that it's difficult to defend."

The sending off is likely to leave McGregor out of contention for Rangers' clash with bitter rivals Celtic next weekend, another sore point for Gerrard.

He commented: "I think he'll be frustrated because he loves playing in the Old Firm games. He'll be frustrated first and then all the supporters, who are big Allan McGregor fans. For me, I won't be able to pick a keeper who has been so consistent for me, so it's frustration all round."
