Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says exciting partnership is brewing as creative duo show link-up quality

Steven Gerrard says an exciting partnership is brewing in Rangers' attack as he praised the link-up qualities shown by two of his most creative players.

Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent combined for the first goal as the Ibrox side overcame Dundee United 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

Gerrard was delighted with what he saw from both men, with their understanding clearly growing game-by-game.

When asked about Kent's opener in Saturday's league match, the Ibrox boss said: "Him [Kent] and Ianis are linking up really well. Playing close together. Little combinations around the box.

"It was a wonderful goal, people will say it's an individual goal but don't forget the part Ianis played in that as well."

Kent has started the season in superb form, and doesn't seem to have been affected by transfer speculation linking him with a move to Leeds United.

Gerrard added: "He's in a terrific place. Working hard, playing well. He's happy. He's looking ever so dangerous, and maybe could've got in on the act even more."

The 4-0 scoreline meant Rangers broke a Scottish record by racking up their seventh consecutive clean sheet to start the Premiership campaign.

The Ibrox boss said: "I think the players deserve a lot of credit for it. To be fair to Dundee United they didn't go away. They wanted to be that team to score against us, and be the first team to do that. But the players stayed with it so very pleased with them in terms of the record.

"But more important is the points. It's another strong win at home, with a clean sheet. So I'm happy."
