Rangers boss Steven Gerrard provides update on Borna Barisic injury

Steven Gerrard admits Borna Barisic faces an uphill fitness battle as Rangers prepare to face Kilmarnock.

The left-back was forced off injured during the 4-1 Scottish Cup fifth round victory over Hamilton Accies on Saturday.

But the Rangers boss has received a boost in the form of Ryan Jack - the midfielder is set to return after limping off against Hearts in January.

It remains to be seen if Barisic will join him as Gerrard revealed the 27-year-old will be given every chance to prove his fitness for Wednesday night's fixture.

He said: "The last time we spoke we told you about Borna having a problem. I think he's got an outside chance for Wednesday night.

"He won't train today. We're going to try to give it as long as we can.

"He will probably have a late fitness test, so at the moment the best case scenario he's 50-50 right now.

"Ryan Jack is available, however, which is fantastic news.

"Kilmarnock have had three decent results and they seem to be turning a corner, our matches against them have always been tough.

"We expect nothing different and it will be a good challenge for us.

"I'm someone who will always push for the best I can get from my players. The players seem to be getting there.

"We need to continue to work, there have been times we have had the 90 minutes performances and I have every confidence we will get there again."
