Rangers boss Steven Gerrard on Alfredo Morelos' strong 'response' to Leverkusen showing

Steven Gerrard says he's happy with Alfredo Morelos' "response" to a disappointing midweek showing against Bayer Leverkusen.

The striker netted twice and set up another in Rangers' 3-0 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox.

Gerrard said after the Europa League defeat on Thursday that he felt Morelos' head had been turned by all the transfer speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

However he was delighted with how the Colombian bounced back in this afternoon's league victory.

Gerrard told Rangers TV: "I wanted a bit more from him in midweek. We spoke about that. But he's certainly responded today.

"I think his two performances domestically have been fine. I thought he was decent at Aberdeen – could have been better in taking his chances and getting his shots off.

"Today I thought his all-round performance was good. More often than not, if you've got his talent, and you play well the numbers will come. They came today and I'm pleased with his all-round contribution."
