Chris Sutton rubbishes Rangers boss Steven Gerrard over Aberdeen claims

Chris Sutton reckons Steven Gerrard is starting to sound like former Rangers flop Pedro Caixinha.

The Ibrox boss claimed the Dons raise their game against his side after suffering three defeats at the hands of their rivals this season.

But Derek McInnes hit back at his opposite number and reckons the 38-year-old shouldn't flatter himself.

And Sutton has backed the Dons boss as he made the comparison between the current boss and the Portuguese flop who was bombed out at Rangers after only six months in 2017.

Sutton told BT Sport: “He's lost the plot, Steven Gerrard.

"He’s talking like Pedro Caixinha.

“Just because Rangers are having an average season don’t blame it all on Aberdeen."

Gerrard stirred things up ahead of the seventh meeting between the teams at Ibrox on Sunday.

He said: "Results against Aberdeen damaged us, especially in the cup. We are fully expecting a tough game again at the weekend.

"Aberdeen play different against Rangers. That's what I've noticed. They certainly raise their game. It seems as if Rangers is their biggest game of the season.

"We're fully expecting a very tough game, so we'll have to be at it.

"Do they try harder against Rangers? That's the way it looks on the eye. We watched them last week against Celtic and they never laid a finger on Celtic in the semi-final."
