Rangers boss Steven Gerrard faces ban over comments about East Kilbride ref Bobby Madden

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is facing a one-match ban after comments he made about East Kilbride referee Bobby Madden in the aftermath of Sunday's Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic.

Madden, from East Mains, sent off two Rangers players during the ill-tempered 2-1 defeat at Parkhead.

The 40-year-old showed Gers striker Alfredo Morelos a red card for lashing out at Celtic captain Scott Brown in the first half and sent off midfielder Andy Halliday after the final whistle as players from both sides clashed.

It's understood Gerrard was incensed by some of Madden's decisions and vented his frustration in his direction at full-time.

He has now been cited by the Scottish Football Association.

Scott Brown also faces a ban after he was cited for "not acting in the best interest of Scottish football" during the contest.

Both clubs will have until Wednesday to respond to the complaints.

Rangers winger Ryan Kent was yesterday offered a two-match ban for lashing out at Brown off the ball, an incident Madden and his assistant missed at the time, but Rangers have appealed the decision.

Morelos' actions saw him cop a four-game ban.
