Rangers boss Steve Gerrard lets rip at Scott Brown following Old Firm defeat

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has blasted Celtic captain Scott Brown following his sides Old Firm derby defeat.

Goals from Odsonne Edouard and James Forrest handed Neil Lennon's side a 2-1 win at Parkhead - but Gerrard was left angered by the actions of the Hoops skipper after the midfielder helped get Gers forward Alfredo Morelos sent off in the first-half.

The Colombian lashed out at Brown after a clash off the ball and was shown a red card for the fifth time this season.

But despite Ryan Kent equalising for the 10-men in the opening stages of the second-half, Forrest struck in the dying minutes to move Lennon's side one stop closer to the SPL tittle.

More ugly scenes then followed after the final whistle as Gers full-back Andy Halliday took exception to Celtic's celebrations, sparking a melee on the pitch.

But speaking in his post-match press conference, Gerrard didn't hold back when asked his thoughts on the incidents.

"You're playing against a player who loves to antagonise. Morelos and Kent are both provoked," the former Liverpool man said.

" Celtic fans have the right to celebrate but to do it right in your race, Halliday has the right to protect his own people.

"The guy who antagonised it all from the beginning deserves to be punished as well. When you're provoked, it's only fair that both sides get punished in my view.

"We've hurt ourselves badly this season with a lack of discipline. I've given my players the benefit of the doubt on too many times. Morelos has asked me for a chat, and that will be picked up."

But when asked his thoughts on the incident, Brown believes the referee was left with little option but to send the forward off.

"He gave me an elbow, and you can't do that in modern-day football, the amount of cameras there are," the Celtic skipper said post-match.

"It was all about us today. It's about our performance. We dictated play in the first half, and in the second we have to dig deep."
